Kathmandu : Lions International District 325 K, Nepal, has emphasized leadership development, organizational strengthening and quality membership growth through a New Member Orientation Program held at Sky Restro & Banquet in Kathmandu.

The program was organized to familiarize new members with the history, objectives and global role of Lions Clubs International, while also highlighting the importance of leadership, community service and organizational responsibility.

The event was attended by District Governor Lion Ramesh Adhikari, Past International Director PID Bal Krishna Burlakoti, First Vice District Governor Bishnuhari Phuyal, Second Vice District Governor Hasan Kumar Gopali, Cabinet Secretary Ganesh GC, District Treasurer Chudamani Silwal, PRO-in-Chief Surendra Babu Shrestha, Mission 1.5 Chief Mahaprasad Pandey, district cabinet officers, club officials and a large number of new Lions members.

Building a stronger image of Lions

Speaking at the orientation, PID Bal Krishna Burlakoti stressed that every Lions member has a role in strengthening the image and reputation of Lions at the club, district and international levels.

He said Lions should not be viewed merely as a social organization but as a global service movement that develops leadership through humanitarian service. He urged members and leaders to maintain discipline, integrity and professionalism in their activities so that the positive image of Lions continues to grow.

Burlakoti emphasized that the activities of an individual club can influence the reputation of the entire district and the wider Lions movement. He called for collective efforts from senior leaders as well as new members to take the organization to a higher level.

From its foundation to a global movement

PRO-in-Chief Surendra Babu Shrestha provided an overview of Lions Clubs International, from its establishment to its present global presence.

He highlighted the organization’s contribution to health, education, vision care, environmental protection, disaster response, hunger relief and humanitarian services and said Lions has developed into a major volunteer movement operating across 210 countries and geographical areas.

Shrestha said joining Lions means becoming part of a worldwide humanitarian movement and encouraged new members to understand its history, values and responsibilities rather than limiting their involvement to club activities alone.

District 325 K leads Nepal in membership growth

Mission 1.5 Chief Mahaprasad Pandey presented an in-depth overview of the Lions movement, its organizational structure in Nepal and the recent developments within District 325 K.

Pandey said District 325 K is currently ranked first among Nepal’s 15 Lions districts in organizational and membership growth.

According to him, the district has raised more than US$51,000 for LCIF, marking significant progress in its contribution to the Lions Clubs International Foundation.

He further stated that District 325 K has achieved a historic milestone by chartering 42 new Lions clubs within just two months. Of these, 37 new clubs have already received approval, while applications for another five clubs have been submitted for approval.

Pandey said Mission 1.5 is not limited to increasing membership numbers. Its broader objective is to strengthen clubs, retain and activate members, expand new clubs and increase the impact of Lions’ service activities in local communities.

Focus on active and quality membership

The trainers emphasized that membership growth alone is not sufficient unless new members remain active and contribute meaningfully to community service.

They stressed the need to train new members in club operations, leadership, project planning, resource mobilization, communication and community engagement.

The speakers also called for Lions projects to move beyond formal events and focus on measurable, need-based and result-oriented service activities in areas such as education, healthcare, environmental protection, disaster management, hunger relief and humanitarian assistance.

Preparing a new generation of Lions leaders

The orientation also focused on developing a new generation of Lions leaders. Participants were introduced to the organizational structure from the club level to the district level, along with leadership responsibilities and opportunities for professional and personal development.

The trainers said the future strength of Lions depends on the ability to transform new members into active volunteers, capable leaders and responsible representatives of the organization.

Participants said the orientation helped them better understand the history, objectives, structure and responsibilities of Lions and would encourage them to become more actively involved in community service.

The program concluded with an emphasis on strengthening unity, cooperation, leadership, membership development and quality humanitarian service within District 325 K, Nepal.
