Hong Kong: Nepal has achieved another historic milestone in the global Lions movement as senior Lion leader Rajan Lamsal has been elected International Director of Lions Clubs International during the 108th Lions International Convention held in Hong Kong. The five-day convention, held from July 3 to July 7, concluded on Tuesday with the election of new international leaders.
Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest humanitarian service organization, has more than 1.4 million members serving communities across over 210 countries and geographical areas. Lamsal is one of the 18 International Directors elected to serve on the organization’s International Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 term. During his tenure, he will primarily represent matters relating to India, South Asia, and the Middle East.
Lamsal becomes only the third Nepali to reach this prestigious international leadership position in the 55-year history of Lions in Nepal. He follows Sanjay Khetan (2015–2017) and Balkrishna Burlakoti (2023–2025), who previously served as International Directors, marking another proud moment for the Nepali Lions community.
Former District Governor of Lions District 325 I Nepal Chandra Kumar KC described Lamsal’s election as a historic achievement for Nepal’s Lions movement, stating that it reflects the growing recognition and credibility of Nepali leadership within Lions Clubs International.
Following his election, Lamsal said the achievement is not merely a personal honor but a collective success for all Nepali Lions. He added that the new responsibility has inspired him to serve with even greater dedication and commitment.
He expressed his commitment to bringing more international grants to Nepal through Lions International, particularly in the fields of education, healthcare, environmental protection, disaster management, and tourism promotion. He also emphasized strengthening youth leadership, expanding membership with quality leadership development, promoting digital innovation, and showcasing Nepal’s successful service initiatives at the international level.
Born in Syangja, Nepal, Lamsal is a businessman actively involved in the travel, hospitality, manpower, education, banking, hydropower, and stock brokerage sectors. He is also the founding president of the social organization Helping Hands for Social Development.
Lamsal joined Lions in 1997 and founded the Lions Club of Kathmandu Samakhushi in 2001. Since then, he has held numerous national and international leadership positions, including District Governor, Multiple Council Chairperson, GLT Coordinator, GMT Coordinator, Specialty Club Country Coordinator, and LCIF Area Leader.
As District Governor, he set a global benchmark by chartering 65 new Lions clubs during his tenure. He also successfully led the construction of a district headquarters building, served as an international leadership trainer, and played a significant role in implementing LCIF-supported humanitarian projects in health, education, disaster relief, and community development.
Beyond Lions, Lamsal has made remarkable contributions to society. He is one of the founding campaigners of Nepal’s National Folk Song Academy and has supported the establishment of more than 133 libraries across the country. He has also led scholarship programs, educational endowment funds, free cataract surgery campaigns in Nepal’s southern plains, and numerous community development projects, including roads, schools, hospitals, and rural electrification in Syangja.
His wife, Lion Indu Lamsal, is a Past District Governor and a recipient of the prestigious Ambassador of Goodwill Award, one of the highest honors bestowed by Lions Clubs International.
Lamsal’s election is widely regarded as a landmark achievement for Nepal’s Lions movement. It is expected to further strengthen Nepal’s presence within Lions Clubs International while creating new opportunities for international partnerships, humanitarian service projects, leadership development, and sustainable community development across the country.
