RSP Secretariat Directs Government Delegation to Highlight Bhotekoshi Disaster at UNGA

Kathmandu: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has directed the government delegation, including the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, attending the United Nations General Assembly to prepare to address the multidimensional aspects of the Bhotekoshi disaster and Nepal’s changing political situation.

A Secretariat meeting of the RSP held today at the party’s central office under the chairmanship of party president Rabi Lamichhane instructed the delegation to present Nepal’s perspectives on international relations and the country’s role on the global stage.

According to party spokesperson Jagadish Kharel, the meeting decided to take necessary strategic steps after receiving a detailed report from Madhes Province coordinator and co-general secretary Hari Dhakal on the province’s organizational situation and the performance audit.

The meeting also nominated nine lawyers—Harichandra Bhattarai, Sushila Shinkhada, Ramchandra Karki, Shanta Thapa, Nandan Timilsina, Rohan Bohaju, Bhavindra Rai, Santosh Acharya, Santosh Bisukhe and Shweta Kumari—as members of the Central Disciplinary Commission.

Likewise, Gyanendra Malla was nominated deputy head of the Youth, Sports and Empowerment Department. Mahesh Bhatt, Tashi Lajom and Hikmat Jung Karki were appointed members of the International Relations and Diplomatic Department, while Jairam Gurung and Rajkumar Shrestha were appointed members of the Public Service and Public Grievance Management Department.

Newly nominated Secretariat member Biraj Bhakta Shrestha and co-spokesperson Surendra Chaudhary took the oath of office and secrecy before party president Lamichhane during the meeting.

The meeting also decided to resume all official party activities that had been suspended following the Bhotekoshi disaster. According to spokesperson Kharel, programmes including the ‘Hami Sunchhau’ (We Listen) campaign, the ‘Citizen Policy and Leadership’ campaign, and the process of selecting candidates for local-level elections will now be taken forward without delay.

During the meeting, RSP Vice President and Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle briefed the Secretariat on his recent visit to India, including his meetings there and issues related to economic diplomacy.

Party officials and members serving in the government also briefed the meeting on the multifaceted aspects of the government’s response to the devastating Bhotekoshi floods, including search and rescue, relief distribution, rehabilitation and reconstruction.

The meeting urged the government to expedite DNA testing for those who lost their lives in the floods but whose bodies have not yet been identified. It also called for the legal process to issue death certificates, with the consent of families, for people who remain missing and whose families have lost hope of finding them, so that relief and other government facilities can be provided to the affected families without further delay.
