Kathmandu, September 28: Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel today inaugurated the Chief of Army Staff Trophy–2083 sports competition at the sports ground in Lagankhel.
The Chief of Army Staff Trophy was launched in 2065 B.S. with the objective of identifying talented athletes within the Nepali Army, developing their skills and preparing players capable of competing at national and international levels.
The competition features eight sporting disciplines—athletics, swimming, boxing, taekwondo, volleyball, basketball, football and judo. A total of 14 teams representing various divisions and brigades of the Nepali Army are participating in the tournament.
In the 5-kilometer race held today as part of the competition, Private Nirmala KC of the Middle Eastern Division finished first in the women’s category, while Soldier Arjun Budha of the North Western Division secured first place in the men’s category.
Chief of Army Staff Sigdel presented awards to the winners of the 5-kilometer race.
Generals, senior officers, officials, members of the judging panel and participating athletes were present at the inauguration ceremony.
