RSP Orders Internal Probe into Allegations Against MP Khagendra Sunar

Kathmandu, October 13: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has expressed serious concern over media reports, publicly circulated audio recordings, and questions raised regarding Khagendra Sunar, a member of the House of Representatives elected from the party.

In a statement, the party said the allegations reported in the media—including conduct allegedly undermining women’s dignity and respect, undue pressure, inappropriate threats, and suspicious financial transactions—were serious and sensitive matters requiring careful examination.

The RSP, which says it is committed to the rule of law, good governance, and public accountability, stated that it could not take such allegations against any party member or elected representative lightly. The party reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward any form of misconduct against women, violations of official responsibilities, and criminal offenses.

According to the statement, the party’s Central Disciplinary Commission has been instructed to immediately begin an internal investigation to establish the facts. To prevent any interference with the inquiry and uphold ethical standards, Sunar has been directed not to attend any formal events in his capacity as a public officeholder until the investigation is concluded.

The party also expressed confidence that the relevant state authorities would promptly conduct an independent, impartial, and fact-based investigation into the issues raised. It pledged full cooperation with any investigation carried out by state agencies.

Reaffirming its commitment to the democratic principle that no one is above the law, the RSP said it would take further action in accordance with the law and the party’s statute based on the findings of both the independent state investigation and its internal inquiry.

The party further stressed that it would not provide political protection to anyone found to have violated the law or breached the standards of conduct required by public office.
