Heifer International provides Rs. 10M to PM Disaster Relief Fund

Kathmandu, Sept 4: Heifer International Nepal including its employees has provided a sum of Rs. 10 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund for the relief and rehabilitation of those affected by the Bhotekoshi flash flood that occurred on August 26.

The devastating debris flow has claimed 1294 people as of Friday evening with still missing over 5 thousand.

The flood has decimated settlements and infrastructure along the Bhotekoshi/Trishuli River in districts such as Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha.

The organization has said that thousands of families have been displaced and affected essential services and the rescue and relief operation has been made challenging in the flood-hit area.

The sum Heifer donated includes the fund allocated from the organisation’s emergency fund and the voluntary contribution of its employees.

Dr. Thirtha Raj Regmi, country director of the Heifer International Nepal, shared his belief that the assistance will aid the government’s relief and rehabilitation efforts while it will also show its solidarity with the affected families and communities in the aftermath of disaster.

“It is our responsibility to be with the community and provide support at this time of loss and uncertainty. Our contribution is an expression of solidarity with the affected families and communities,” said Dr. Regmi.

The organization has stated that it has accorded priority to provide immediately essential humanitarian assistance including goods and medical supplies to the affected people.
