Nepal Telecom contributes Rs 100 million to PM Natural Disaster Relief Fund

Kathmandu, Sept 9: Nepal Telecom has contributed Rs 100 million to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund for the relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts intended to the people affected by the devastating Bhotekoshi flood.

A delegation of the Telecom handed over a cheque bearing the amount here on Wednesday to Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina, Secretary and Telecom’s Board of Directors Chairperson and Telecom representatives.

Earlier, employees of the Telecom had donated over Rs 20 million to the Fund.

The telecommunication service provider has also extended direct assistance to flood-hit areas. Following the catastrophic disaster that claimed scores of lives and damaged massive properties in the districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading among others, the Nepal Telecom provided free voice calls, data and SMS services worth around Rs 60 million.

A press statement issued by Telecom’s Spokesperson Dr Kamal Lamichhane, stated that Nepal Telecom has consistently supported citizens during national emergencies, including floods, landslides, earthquakes and the COVID-19 pandemic.

It reaffirmed its commitment to keep communication services operational during disasters and doing whatever it can to support for relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts. #rss
