‘Digital transformation for sustainable, resilient digital system ‘

Kathmandu, Sept 4: Minister for Information and Communication Dr. Bikram Timilsina has said that the government has accelerated digital transformation to set up sustainable and resilient digital system that caters uninterrupted information and communication services to the people even in times of disaster.

Digital transformation is not limited to expansion of technology, modernization of government series and enhancement of capability, said Minister Dr. Timilsina while addressing the Digital Nepal Conclave 2026 organised by ICT Foundation.

The Bhotekoshi flash flood damaged lives and infrastructures, it also took a test of Nepal’s information system, communication network, institutional coordination and national preparedness, he said.

He viewed that recent disaster experiences have pointed at the need to equally prioritise counter disaster capacity, reliability and continuity of digital system although digital transformation is understood as facility, efficiency and modernization.

“Nepal needs sustainable and resilient digital transformation, not digital transformation only. The burning question at this time of disaster is whether our digital system can provide unhindered services to the people when they need it most, said Minister Dr. Timilsina, adding, “Can the government communicate effectively during disaster time? Can institutions coordinate in real time? Can citizens get essential services and information when normal system gets disrupted? Can we distinguish between truth and rumour as misinformation spreads fasters than truth? These questions are not only theoretical now. These have become matters of national priority.”TRN
