Payment and Settlement (First Amendment) Bill passed

Kathmandu, Sept 23: Today’s meeting of the House of Representatives has unanimously passed the ‘Payment and Settlement (First Amendment) Bill, 2083’ after theoretical discussion.

Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle, who is overseeing the Prime Minister’s daily administrative duties, presented a proposal seeking consideration on the bill. Responding to queries raised in the discussion, he mentioned that the bill has been brought as the initiatives to improve economy after the existing structure failed to address the issues like systematic liquidity.

Lawmakers—Sushil Khadka, Nitima Bhandari Karki, Prem Lal Chaudhary, Ganesh Paudel, Ninu Kumari Karna, Prem Bahadur Bayak, Yashuda Kumari Baral, Parashu Ram Tamang had taken part in the discussion.

Though introducing international digital payment in the country is welcomed, there should be clarity about benefits for the country and safe transaction, stressed the lawmakers.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal had asked the lawmakers to give notice about amendment to the bill as per the regulation.

On the occasion, a letter received from the Office of the President describing about the assignment to Finance Minister Dr Wagle to overseeing the Prime Minister’s daily administrative duties after Prime Minister Balendra Shah has left for USA leading a Nepali delegation to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly was read out.(RSS)
