Sankhuwasabha, Oct 20: The Khandbari-Kimathanka road has resumed full service following extensive restoration efforts led by the Nepali Army. This vital transportation route, which connects Nepal to China, had been closed for three months due to a significant landslide in the Chhumsur area of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality 2.

The landslide, which involved large boulders, completely obstructed vehicular access. The North-South (Koshi) Highway Project had sought the assistance of the Nepali Army to clear the debris.

In response, a military team from the Chhumsur post, under the 1 Development Group, was deployed. They utilized controlled explosives to break down the massive boulders, allowing the project team to remove the debris and restore the road’s functionality. Project Director Ram Bahadur Gurung noted that the use of explosives was necessary due to the size of the rocks displaced by the landslide.

The restoration of the Khandbari-Kimathanka road is particularly significant as it enhances accessibility to key trade corridors between Nepal and China, which have faced disruptions from natural disasters and road closures.

This development highlights the importance of maintaining connectivity to the northern frontier, ensuring improved transportation services in the region. RSS
