Lions Gongbu and Bethel support educational materials to remote schools in Mugu

KATHMANDU: Lions Club of Kathmandu Gongabu and the Lions Club of Kathmandu Bethel have jointly provided educational materials and school uniforms to the students of Shree Mahadev Basic School, located in Jhyari-a highly remote village in Mugu district.

The initiative was carried out under the humanitarian service activities of Lions International District 325 K, Nepal. The project aimed to support children in an underserved community, encourage them to continue their education and help create opportunities for a brighter future.

Anjan Shrestha, President of Lions Club of Kathmandu Gongabu, expressed happiness at being able to contribute to the educational journey of children in a remote community. He said that humanitarian service is at the heart of the Lions movement and that the club remains committed to initiatives focused on education, healthcare and community needs.

“We believe that even a small contribution can bring smiles to children’s faces, encourage them in their studies and help create a positive change in remote communities,” Shrestha said.

Similarly, Prajawati Thapa Shrestha, President of Lions Club of Kathmandu Bethel, described the programme as a meaningful achievement for the newly established club. Founded in Lions Year 2026/27, Bethel considers the opportunity to support students in a remote village an important and inspiring beginning to its service journey.

“Being able to understand the needs of children in remote areas and contribute to their education is a great source of happiness for me. We look forward to continuing community-oriented service activities in the days ahead,” she said.

Interestingly, Anjan Shrestha and Prajawati Thapa Shrestha are husband and wife, and both currently serve as presidents of their respective clubs. Their family has been actively involved in the Lions movement and community service. Their daughter, Kimberly Shrestha, has also joined the service and leadership journey as the Charter President of Leo Club of Kathmandu Heritage Dharahara, recently established through the initiative of Lions Club of Kathmandu Heritage Dharahara.

Lions Club of Kathmandu Gongabu is also the home club of former International Director Bal Krishna Burlakoti. With its connection to experienced Lions leadership, the club has continued to remain active in humanitarian and community service initiatives. Among the approximately 228 clubs affiliated with Lions International District 325 K, Nepal, Gongabu is recognised for its active involvement in humanitarian service.

The support programme in Jhyari, Mugu, has addressed some of the educational needs of children in the remote village while bringing the spirit of Lions service closer to the community. Education remains a key foundation for social transformation, and such initiatives are expected to encourage children to continue their studies with greater confidence and enthusiasm.

Both club presidents reaffirmed their commitment to continuing humanitarian initiatives in education, healthcare and other areas based on community needs.
